Kinesis

A kinetic response occurs when the rate of an activity is changed, for example orthokinesis is the change in the rate of movement, klinokinesis is the change in the rate at which turning motions occur. This type of response is non-directional. In the example above the woodlouse moves quickly in a straight line when in an unfavourable dry environment but slows down and turns more rapidly when in the favourable environment. This will tend to keep the organism in the favourable environment and hence increase its chances of survival.
